Saffron spice

If you have come upon a recipe that calls for saffron spice, chances are you are not looking in a bargain cookbook. This spice is actually the most expensive spice in the world.

For even a gram of this spice, the cost can often be close to $20. The good thing about this, however, is the fact that this spice is so pungent and full of taste that you do not need much.

Saffron spice can be used on dishes that people make from home, but it is often found at restaurants where fine elegant dining is featured. The dishes that use saffron spice may cost a bit more, but those who have tried the honey-like taste of saffron already know that the spice is completely unique.

Saffron spice is just as well-known for its color as it id for its taste. Saffron powder needs to be a bright red or orange color in order for it to be considered the best. There is also yellow saffron, but this is considered an inferior color.

Saffron spice is ground from saffron threads. When buying, it is important to make sure that the spice is pure saffron and that it has not been mixed with other spices or powders.
